EEG

Never a dull moment in life.  I am pretty atypical with my children and their health.  Being a pediatric nurse I feel like I don't want or need to rush into the Dr.'s office so I tend to use my knowledge and expertise and watch my girls and their symptoms at home.  The three strikes rule applied to my life over the last few weeks.

May 1st began a little unusual.  Blake reported that Sophie was doing something "funky" with her eyes before church.  I didn't witness any of these funky episodes before we left.  Sophie always has rough Sundays at church. Being away from the only place she likes to sleep, her bed, during nap time doesn't go well.  She became overly exhausted on this particular day and I became witness to this rapid eye movement that she had done for Blake.  She continued to have 4 more "episodes" that would last around 5-10 seconds.  During this time she was completely unresponsive to me trying to intervene.  THIS FREAKED ME OUT, which says a lot.

You fell asleep and then were fine until you started to puke that evening.  I thought maybe this was all related. Over the last few weeks you continued to have these eye "episodes."  You had puked on another incidence but I couldn't tie anything together.  Mom decided after the third episode, we were going to visit the Pediatrician.

Your Dr. wasn't sure what to make of it, so he called around and got back to me. Your pediatrician talked to a few Dr.'s to pick their brains.  First he talked to the pediatric neurologist and he wanted to complete an EEG to rule out seizure activity.  Then he talked to the pediatric ophthalmologist who thought the symptoms could be "dancing eyes."  The eye Dr. suggested the pediatrician talk with the pediatric oncologist because this symptom could be related to a neuroblastoma.  When my pediatrician got back to me on the phone and mentioned that he spoke with the oncology Dr., my heart literally skipped a beat.  I hope that I never have to hear that my Dr. has talked to the "cancer Dr." about my child again.  To rule out a neuroblastoma the oncologist needed to collect some urine because this strangely enough is the marker.

So to hopefully rule everything out, we had a day of testing.

Marking the location for the leads to run the EEG

Measuring away

Not a happy camper.....they wanted a tired and hungry baby.....but they didn't want you to eat and fall asleep quite yet.  Hah!  Easier said then done

Blue dots and goop

Trying my best to help out, it was harder than I thought

I finally told the lady if she was going to ever get the leads on you, I was going to have to nurse

All hooked up

Getting the turban on so you couldn't pull the wires off.  You were TICKED!

Ah...sleeping baby for testing

Happy Baby when we woke you back up and you heard we got to start taking everything off
